What is a Meet and Greet?

A meet and greet is where you and your pup come to my home to visit. It’s not a drop off. You’ll stay with your dog the entire time. It’s basically a chance for your dog to “meet” where they’ll be. They’ll smell around the yard, mark everything in sight, and get to meet us. You can ask any questions that haven’t already been answered here. Meet and Greets are conducted outside, so please keep this in mind when booking one. We do not offer tours of the inside at this time because it is well…our home.

After the meet and greet is complete, your pet will be marked as such in the booking software and you’ll be able to book the services and dates you need. Meet and Greets are required for all new clients looking to stay with us.

Thanksgiving Day – Closed

Christmas Day – Closed
New Years Eve – Closing at Noon

*We understand being closed on Saturdays is sometimes inconvenient. However, please take into consideration that this is our only day off each week and we still have to “work” because we still have pets in our care. The only thing we’re really getting a break from is having to be tied to our home for drop offs and pick ups. We love your pets and treat them like our own, but please respect our boundaries that are in place to give us more time as a family.

Do you require certain vaccinations?

As of right now we do not have specific vaccinations we require. The only thing that is required is listing the vaccinations your dog does have in their portal on our booking software. We have to have these on file for insurance purposes.

Are there any breed restrictions?

We do not breed discriminate here at Home to Roam. Every dog is unique and while we believe there are common breed characteristics, each dog has it’s own personality. That being said, that’s why we require meet and greets to make sure you’re dog is a good fit for us and vice versa! The only “kind” of dog we will turn away is a food aggressive dog. We’re not set up to be able to accommodate dogs who can’t be around other dogs when dog food or people food is out.

Can you accommodate last minute requests?

As long as we’re not booked up, we’re happy to accept last minute requests for clients who have had their meet and greets. If you are a new client looking to book a last minute stay, we unfortunately, won’t be available to you until you’ve booked a meet and greet with us. Please note our system will not let you book a stay with less than 24 hours notice. Please shoot us a text to make sure we have availability and to reserve your time slot for drop off and pick up.

What do you do if there's an incident involving my dog?

While we pride ourselves in the lack of incidents we have had in the years we’ve been open, we understand that sometimes dogs don’t get along. If we see there’s issues with dogs while they’re here we separate them inside our house and do separate potty / playtimes outside. If there’s an actual incident that occurs, we fill out an incident report that will show up on your pet portal and we contact you (the owner or your emergency contact) to explain what’s happened and take appropriate next steps.

What do you do at meal times?

We have kennels set up so that we can safely feed everyone separately. The only dogs we allow to eat together are dogs that come from the same household and only if the owner is okay with it. Otherwise everyone is separated for meal times.

Where will my dog sleep?

Everyone sleeps inside...even if they're an "outside" dog. While you’re welcome to bring your dogs bed for overnight stays, we have plenty here on hand! Most dogs find a bed or the floor and that’s where they’ll be. If you’re dog is used to being crated at night, we’re happy to accommodate for that. We do not allow dogs in our beds even if you do at home. We promise they’ll be fine without being tucked in at our house and will get used to the routine here. We’ve had no complaints so far!

What do I need to bring with me for my dogs stay?

Food and medications (if applicable). That’s really the only requirement I have. I do not provide food as I don’t believe switching a dog off their used to suddenly is good for them. Other than that, whatever you’d like to bring is fine. We do have our own beds and bowls that are around our house that our guests are welcome to use. Some of my clients bring just food and others bring all of their dogs favorite things….it’s really up to you!

How often do you let the dogs out to potty?

The members of our household are typically home so your doggos will get frequent potty breaks. In the spring, summer, and fall when it’s nice out we’re out every couple of hours or so. During the winter it’s much more of a “everyone out to potty and back in” situation if it’s really cold. But typically we try to spend good chunks of the day outside so there’s plenty of time to play in nature where dogs love to be!

What do you do when you're not home?

If your dog is used to being crated, that’s what we’ll do. If they’re used to being free, then we’ll just separate them from the other dogs. We don’t ever leave dogs outside when we’re not home. One caveat – if your dog is found to be destructive while we’re gone and we were not made aware of it ahead of time, your dog will be crated during our absence whether they’re used to it or not.

Do you have a dog of your own?

We do not as of right now. We lost our guy in March of 2023. Since we have doggies all the time at our house, we haven’t missed the presence of a dog but we’ve missed Tobowa greatly. Right now there’s no urgency for us to get another dog and we’re waiting for the right dog to come along for our family.

Are you insured?

We are! We have insurance specific to pet sitters through Pet Care Insurance.

Did we miss something?
